sump help

Sounds like alot of work to me! I just stick an airline in there, fill both boxes, insert u-tube and then suck out the air. Sometimes I leave the airline hose in there, and sometimes I remove it. Either way it's quick.

Not a bad idea! You just send it up one end of the tube? I've heard of people drilling the top of the tube and epoxying an air line check valve to attach an air tube to, but personally, I don't like to trust mechanical pieces if I don't have to. If the check valve ever failed, the box would lose it's prime...no good on a running system. How hard is is to suck the air out with the water pulling back? Also, if you leave the hose in, I assume you need to put the other end under water?

Yip

I stick it up one side, to the very top.
Put into over flow boxes.
Suck air out.
Pinch airline.
Pull it out.

With the other kinda sorta thing.
I've heard of putting a barbed fitting into the top. Hook up an ainline from it, to a PH venturi. Supposed to keep any bubbles that might get caught in the tube, out.

if you dont want to suck in tank water you could always hook up a aqua lifter pump to the air line and it will suck the air out of your u-tube.

i use continous flow over flow boxes & my attention span is toooo short to pay attention :)

thanks guys (or gals) for your help. I got it running last night. does anyone know what the hose in the last picture is for (the one that looks like a vacuum cleaner hose)?

ps. 3 ft of tubing and paying attention worked perfect!
