Sump plumbing???

are you running this on an hob overflow?

this does seem VERY loud...
my setup is completely silent... but i have done things in a completely different and more complex way.. i was very concerned with offgassing my co2 that i am injecting so i came up with a plan that is different than most

you can possibly "quiet" it down by making a wet dry area where your pipe drains the water from the tank to the sump... use filter pads or filter floss where the water is splashing and making all the noise...or you can even try lowering the pipe down below the water line in the sump so its not splashing... but that doesn't mean that you wont necessarily hear the water splashing in your pipe

also i would make sure you have all the loose particulate matter cleaned up out of your sump... it could possibly get caught in the impeller of your pump and drastically slow down the flow and... then a possible overflow of your sump if things aren't set up right

you can buy a universal adaptor for your faucet...that's what I had to do. Your LFS probably has it. Hand carrying water for water changes is no fun!!

just a point my worry would be that the silicon has been damaged by the heat from the heater accident
i know the silicon i use weakens drastically when it gets hot and is cooled again u can actually see it crack

SILENCE!

Yeah....I am going to definitely try the filter pads thing. Stupid sump kept me up half the night! I am a VERY light sleeper! I have a bunch of left over canister filter things that I will use. I suppose that would be fine? As far as the silicone goes, I didn't cool it quickly....I just turned off the heaters and turned on a wave maker to move the water around and get it to come down a little faster.....hopefully, the silicone will be fine. It's an All Glass aquarium, so I'm hoping they use excellent silicone! If they didn't and this thing blows....:22_yikes: I will cry. Thanks again for all the help. I am hoping to get this all resolved after church today! You guys all ROCK!

oh yea...

I almost forgot...about the dirt floating around in the sump....that has been AWFUL to try to get out...but, I'm working on it and have that filter thing jammed in the side that goes into the sump for that purpose. My husband had told me the same thing! Thanks guys.

The noise problem

1. Try extending the drain pipe below the water level so it wont splash

2. Flexible drain hose is making upward loop rather than pitched downward continuously. That loop is whats causing that surging action. Loop collect water for while and discharge then collect and discharge.
YOu may want to play with flexible hose or get 2' flexible drain hose.

The video shows that your pump chamber is too low where pump might be sucking in air. Not a good idea with pump.

With Sump system, only water level that drop due to evaporation is in pump chamber (last chamber before the pump).

Try adding some water to tank. You will notice that ONLY water level in the pump chamber will increse.
Remove some water from tank, eventually water level will decrease ONLY in the pump chamber.

That last chamber ( I think it is very small chamber) is only area where the water level will fluctuates, not in the tank nor any other chambers in the sump.

You have to keep the water at decent level so it can handle evaporation fro while but make sure not to keep too high for sump to overflow in case of power failure.

You can look into Automatic Top Off (ATO) system which can help you with constant filling of sump to compensate evaporation.

I mentioned cover for entire sump. Cover will definitely and drastically minimize evaporation, not to mentioned prevention of unwanted pollutant into system.

You should have foam in the Overflow Chamber. Whenever tank gets mulky, you can substitute that foam with TEMPORARY (couple of hours depending on amt of dirt)MICRO FILTER PAD. This will help you improving or removing dust particles.

As foam in the Overflow chamber gets dirty, water level will increase in the Overflow chamber causing water level to drop in pump chamber thus should clean out the foam regularly.

I know it isnt easy at first but I know you will eventually figure all out.

God Luck
