i am currently setting up a 125 i have a 20 gallon tank i am using for a sump for another smaller tank 1 have a 1200gph overflow with 1600gph pump i was wondering if the 20g could handle the flow or should i go bigger?
thanks glen

There is absolutely no reason why a 20g tank won't handle the flow... size really doesn't matter as far as handling the flow... it's the other factors, plumbing and pump size wich will mean wether or not your sump will handle the flow.

The General rule I was taught for figuring out the right size of sump for your aquarium is take the size of your tank and divide by 3. That is suppose to be your min size of sump.

I know my sump cant be too small cause the main tank and sump are both 65gals. Having a bigger sump allows for more filtration, more space to hide equipment and makes having a refugium much easier. My personal feeling is go slightly bigger. not as extreme as me but i feel rather provide the best you can firts time.
