I have a 75 gallon tank and I am thinking of making a sump but I am worried that it will not be good enough. Which do you prefer sump or hob filter? It will have a moderately heavy bioload. If hob any ideas of what to get? Penguin 400 seems common? I think a hob canister will be a lot easier then making a sump. But if a sump, what size tank would I need to use for a good enough filtration?

Yes canister included just any other then a sump I figurd hob included canister filters as well

My thought is go with a cannister. As mentioned, the eheim 2028 would provide great filtration. You can find it for about $250. I've got the 2026 on a 45g and love it.
My thought is go with a cannister of an HOB(always). It provides better filtration and if you ever go planted, you've already got the cannister. Same goes for the cannister vs sump...if you go planted, you'll need a cannister anyway.
Depending on how you get materials, a sump might be less expensive, but is the time it would take to make worth it?
However, on the other side, if you were to ever go bigger(120 or up) you might want a sump, so you could go ahead and build one.
However, my final vote, get a cannister filter.

the bigger the better. 29 gal would be a great sump. i think sumps are under rated in fw. great thing with a sump you can plant it and have the plants help keep the water clean.
I think I am going with a sump because I am not going to pay no 250 bucks haha I am doing a diy canopy stand and decor for the tank currently and so I am doing stuff the cheaper way.
I actually went with a Emperor 400. I think this will best suit me for the filtration, and the price.
