SUMP

But as far as cleaning power goes you definetly have the better filtration because it is forced to go through the "media"?
I guess I'm think that wouldn't there be some water that just comes out the first chamber and dumps right into the 3rd chamber or is there water currents that move through the 2nd chamber that cause it still to run through the "media"?

In cheech's setup, he has a DSB in his fuge (Deep Sand Bed), which there would be no way you force water down and then up like in my setup. Plus on a DSB you want really low flow going over the top of the sand, so for his application/design it is done correctly. Either way is common, it is about 50/50 on his design vs mine, neither is right or wrong, just depends on how you want to setup your sump.

As far as the media question, you get around your way of thinking by employing Reactors in your sump, then you don't have to setup the sump for force water a certain direction in order to be forced through bags of media. You could also put a media basket at the top of the 2nd/3rd chamber baffle, the tall one, so when water does go over the top of that baffle you can have a basket made of egg crate on the back side for water to fall into a media bag of some type if you wanted.

If I had to do mine over again I would go with Cheech's method for sump design over mine. JMO.

Thanks for the info, I have never had a sump on any of my tanks just canisters and only ever seen a couple sumps on other peoples tanks so I had to ask.
