I'm reading melevsreef.com right now to learn about the sump system and I have one big question does it make a lot of water trickle noise? I keep my tank where I sleep and I know if i dont top off my tank my power filter gets to me.

Thank you for bearing with me while I try to learn what I can.

Once you get used to it, you won't be able to sleep very well when it's gone!

Since I took my tank down in my room the other day, I am having this exact problem :D

It depends a little on your overflow. The gurgle from the overflow on a drilled tank can be bothersome, but is easily fixed with a simple "J" trap. A siphon overflow is quieter but not as reliable.

With everything set up right, the system will have some pump humming and a very slight trickling noise. I find that the fans on my lights are louder, but of course they are off when you are sleeping.

i think that any filter humm, is actually kinda relaxing

I use the noise to tell if something is wrong.
The other night I didn't hear water and I noticed right off the bat. Sure enough my sump was way low on water. I noticed no water sound before I noticed my power head
lol
