So yesterday I went out and bought a Sun Catfish (about 3 inches long) for my African Cichlid tank. I took about 2 hrs to acclamate (sp?) it.

That's the one, right now it's a 55 gal. I've read that they can get upto 18 inches but usually don't get any larger than 12 in a tank. They are also suppose to be real slow growers, even slower than channel cats.
Even a 12 inches long fish is huge for a 55gal that is only a little bit less than 13 inches wide!
Yeah a long time ago in a galaxy far far away i had 3 suncats for like 3 years and i only recall mine reaching like 9" plus they were in the tank with Mbuna..
I donated mine to a public aquarium petshop here local and i get to visit them from time to time they are in a 220gal doing great..

sun cats are really cool and i wanted to get one until i read how big they get. its too bad. good luck with the lil guy though. hopefully he doesnt break the mold and grow like a weed
I did some more research and it looks like I can put him in a pond. So hopefully in a few years he'll be in a pond, if he outgrows the 55 by then he'll go into the 125 gal, but I don't think he'll grow that fast.
