Sunsun 302 vs 303 size comparison photos

With regard to my earlier post that my recent Sunsun purchase came with a cracked basket. Here is the response to the sellers customer service email I sent. As you can see they responded quickly and should be receiving a new basket soon. I have already glued the cracked one which will make a good spare.

inside the canister with no other signs of damage. Temporarily I do intend to glue it but becasue the crack may spread I would greatly appreciate it if you would mail me a new replacement basket. The photo's attached show the new canisters arrival and the crack in the top basket.

UPDATE FOLLOWUP: I received the replacement basket well shipped with a thank you letter. I don't know exactly when I received it becasue I check my mail only once week, becasue when your retired days are like weeks and weeks like days. Anyway Kool-Goods has great customer service.

Someone PM me and asked how I fill my Sunsun baskets:
In mine I keep Walmart lava rocks in the bottom tray where dirty tank water comes in from below the bottom tray and need porous material to get started on its way up to the middle try which is where I place my mechanical filtration. I fill the middle tray with a layer of traced cut blue-bond filter pad on the bottom grate of the center basket to prevent early dirt clogging with a springy snuffed layer of Polywool fill upholstery fiber on top the blue-bond pad and one thin layer of bio-balls on top the polywool fill to keep it from early clogging the top grate basket above and take up space in the basket to prevent flow bypass. Finally the top basket is filled with 1 layer of trace-cut blue-bond filter pad and on top of that a layer of enough bio-balls to fill the rest of the tray, again to prevent filter pad flip-up bypass as the water flowing from the bottom of the canister to the top being filtered does not push the edges of the filter padding and polywool out of the way on its way back to the tank. The top layer of bio balls takes up all the extra room in the basket so that the mechanical media (Blue-bond, polywool) cannot be lifted off its basket base forcing the water to go through the media not around it.
I have my sunsun 303a on the way but I think its snowed in in Memphis. You said that you put the lava rocks on the bottom where the dirty water comes up from, I was under the assumption the water came down from the top then was sucked up via the return tube. Is this not the case?
Thanks.

Hey I just read the anwser to my Q Haydn posted. hahaha BTW is there any way to reverse the pump any way. Just wondering, thanks.

Now that I did some research about canisters I found out that the majority of them flow bottom to top including Marineland and Tetratech.

Just think of it like being at a large outside picnic and having to have an assistant use the garden hose sprayer to cool 5 pounds of hot pasta short noodles in a large cafeteria strainer that you are holding. If your assistant sprays the noodles from the top of the strainer down (FX5, CFS500, Magnums) the pasta stays inside the strainer as the water pins them down against the strainer holes. But if your assistant has had too much to drink and decides to spray the strainer and noodles from the bottom up, all the noodles fly out of the strainer and/or out of the way of the water (99% of all Top motor inline basket filters). A very weak flaw but one that can be mitigated with a little media pinning. Since your only going to access the filter once every few months you could even sew the media (blue-bond) to the basket holes using a sewing needle and dental floss.
