I have had this platy for about 9 months recently it has gotten really skinny. It is about as wide as the width of two quarters. It eats all the time and still cannot put on any weight. Its poo is aslo kinda pale colored. Could it be a parasite? The fish was moved 2 months ago from my 10 to my 55(It was all beat up when i moved him, nipped fins) The fish aslo kinda snakes its way through the water and doesnt use his fins. All my other fish are fine icluding other platy. What is wrong? And how do I treat?

Could be an internal parasite. I have heard that soaking the food first in garlic and water can help combat internal parasites. A couple of my platies went like that after a move and never recovered. Eventually they just died off. I would try the garlic or if you can find medicated food that might help as well.

Should I feed the garlic in the main tank? Will the garlic hurt the other unaffected fish?

I use Garlic Guard sometimes. its real easy to do and doesnt hurt unaffected fish. just help prevent internal problems.

I'm not saying this is the problem your fish is experiencing but just repeating an exerience I had.. but just out of curiosity is it the only platy in the tank? One time we had a platy that seemed fine for a few months (at least 6-7 mo.) then suddenly lost weight at an extremely fast rate.. to the point where her "belly" looked concave o.O Her spine became horribly crooked for some reason too. We bought her a couple platy friends with her same coloration and within a few weeks she started gaining weight again.. spine straightened out miraculously too, and she was back to normal within a couple months. I would say you could try giving your platy a friend, but if it's not a matter of loneliness.. it may spread whatever it has to the other platies..

So really I'm not sure what my post is for except to say good luck finding a cure for your fishy and wish I could help more!
