hello, this is my first post.

today i just picked up 3 ghost shrimp from my local walmart, only 26 cents and i didnt kno how my female bettas would react, and i looked at them. well it turns out i gotta female and she looks to be pregnat.

i have her in a seperate tank of her own. and im wondering, how would i go about raising the lil shrimp? this is the first time i have owned shrimp.

Congrats on your pick up!!!!

Glass shrimps will hatch out in a larval stage so you won't be seeing shrimps right away. They will need a very gentle water flow in the tank as to not upset the larvae as they float around.

The bad part of your posting is that you have two bettas in your tank. Your fish will eat them if they find them. The good news is that you have your berried (meaning with eggs) shrimp isolated. You may get some tiny glass shrimps yet . Make sure you have a very gentle water flow in that tank. I wish you luck with your shrimps!! They are really very cool critters!

Ghost shrimp are a low-order shrimp which means the babies go through a larval stage after hatching. The larvae can survive in fresh-water, unlike some other types of low-order shrimp, however they are tricky to raise. This page has some links to information on breeding ghost shrimp (see the links toward the bottom for earlier blog posts).

In particular, the larvae need microscopic food to survive. High-order shrimp (babies that hatch into miniature versions of the adults) such as Red Cherry Shrimp (RCS) are much easier to breed successfully, should you be interested in expanding your foray into the shrimp hobby.

Doh; bubbles beat me to it. :)

well said news, i think one of my bettas eat one the shrimp in my 29g. i still have one more in there, hiding alot. and the female in her own tank.

well it offical, i now have baby shrimp. the mother just had then mybe bout 20 min ago.

sad news is that one of my bettas died mysteriously
