About a week ago we set up a small 3ftx3ft. kiddie pool that we planned on adding a few swordtails too.
I went to test the pool water this morning & found lots of little surprises.

The pool is now home to around 1,000+ baby tadpoles & we have no idea as to what species of frog they are.
I guess the swordtails will have to wait.

Can anyone provide an estimate on how old they are?

No idea on age but awesome! Or not. 1000+ frogs is kinda scary but look how cute they are right now!! lol Just FYI I think most frog species take like 90 days to mature.

In case the mere speculation has not yet crossed your mind, tadpoles are very nutritious. Seems like some would be a nice little reward for some of your favorite fish.

Lots of frog choices depending on where you are. Whatever is most populous, most likely.

I'm a tad jealous--there's nearly 500 gallons of tanks in my bank yard and while I HEAR frogs all night, no spawns in the tanks. Most likely because they all have fish, and there's lots of evidence that frogs won't spawn in a tub with water if they can avoid it. Most smaller fish won't be able to eat a tadpole, but most everything will dine on the eggs if they can. I'd probably put the swords in anyway, especially if they're adults. They won't eat the tads, and the tads won't eat them. Once you start seeing legs, watch and wait--if they're an aquatic species, odds on they'll eat the fry once they morph...but I'd bet it's a wood frog, and they'll morph and leave the water. Make sure they have a means of getting out, otherwise they might drown.

we had a ton of toads hatch out of our 552g goldfish pond ( aka kiddie pool) this year.

I love tadpoles :)

What do you do with the frogs when they're grown?
