SW Tank Price Advice

I definately belive he could have spent $10k on it. I don't know what those other people were thinking.. a few scratches doesn't kill the deal at all. If you really wanted you could use a dremel with a polishing wheel and some polishing compound to buff out the scratches pretty easily but if they are not obtrusive.. like dead center in the front of the glass, I wouldn't even worry about it. Scratches are bound to happen no matter how careful you try to be.. so on any used tank scratches are expected if you ask me.
nice!! ill be bringing my dremel over i guess!

Just make sure to get the right stuff to polish it, cerium oxide. Jewelers use it to polish stones. Here is an old link from doing a quick google search. Page is back from 2001 but shows a person buffing out scratches in his glass aquarium. It may take a little while to do, maybe an hour or so to completely buff out, but it is a one time thing and the tank will look practically new afterwards. Be sure to read the footnote at the bottom of the page.. gives tips to use coarser stuff first if the scratches are deep to save time.

So...I have a new tank and accessories...and all I can really do is sit and stare. I wouldn't even know were to start. He had to cut all the piping out...so it is like a jigsaw puzzle to me. There are at least 5 full sized pumps (not to mention the smaller ones like on the calcium reactor). 5 pumps? Really? What the heck do I do with 5 pumps? :)

BTW...not really looking for answers (although I am always open to them). Just decided to post since I bought it and everything. :)

Nice.. I am soooo jealous.. I can point to almost any SINGLE item that you have and tell you that one item cost more than $250.. even that 175G storage tank.. I would love to have that thing... along with the CA reactor, Ocean Motion 4 way (wave thingy), those nice pumps, nice electrical parts... and on and on.. steal of the century!

When your ready to reassemble don't hesitate to come here and ask questions if you have to. I know I am more than willing to help with any questions you have.. I want to see that tank up and running probably as bad as you do. ;)

If it makes you feel any better it ended up costing me way more then expected. It cost me a whopping $310 total once I had him help me transport it. :D
