SW View on "Tanked!"

Honestly, I really don't want to go through this long thread of groping and quote a bunch of stuff, so I'm just gonna throw it all together.

Patrick, you do understand that the tanks they install need almost no maintenence from the owner, and not even much in general? People want these tanks because they look good.

And to all the idiots complaining about fake coral, thanks alot for sharing your opinion. Honestly, one of the reasons why I left this forum for a while was because of people being so harsh and rash about their opinions. I've seen threads where people where trying to share tanks with other fishkeepers and trying to get tips- and more than half of the replies are people bashing people about how their tanks suck because they have fake plants and coral. Does it really matter? NO!!!

Also, these tanks are low maintenence and have really good filtration. You can overstock a bit with these tanks. A few of them are way too overstocked, but most of them aren't as much of a problem as people make them out to be.

Although the people in Tanked don't take that great care of their fish, its not as bad as people make it out to be. It's entertainment. Chill out.

You left a forum because you were upset over people giving their opinions when opinions were requested?

The issue with the fake coral is often the colors. They are so obviously fake to anyone who has kept corals that it is just ridiculous. Fake plants can at least look somewhat realistic. It also doesn't help that many of the companies that make fake coral can't tell the difference between a dead coral skeleton and a live one, so the fake coral is a brightly colored skeleton, which looks even more off. The other problem is that they create bigger problems down the line unless they are maintained well. Algae buildup, detritus buildup, chewing by some fish. They end up looking even worse as time goes on.

It is a matter of personal preference really. Some people don't mind. Some do. If that upsets you then maybe the internet and forums in general are not really the right place for you.

Maintenance contract is often the simple way. Not zero maintenance, but the people building the tank maintain it for the person ordering the tank.

There are ways to minimize the maintenance also. Especially on very large tanks.

That's not the reason. That's a part of the big reason: people on this forum are just too critical and mean. I got tired of impatient people who couldn't take advice that they didn't like. I got tired of people who bully each other over fish tank preferences. It's kind of sad. And, finally, I got tired of adults who had no interest in listening to what I have to say because I'm a kid. *wink* you know who you are...

You're saying people on this forum are too critical and mean, but yet I see you criticizing Aaf, saying those fish are too much and that's too much work.

Just A bit hypocritical don't ya think?

Starting to drift a bit off topic here. While I understand threads like this can push some buttons, lets keep the discussion on the show itself. Absolutley no call for calling other members names for simply stating an opinion or personal preference. If another's opinion rubs you the wrong way or if you have a contradictory experience, present your own opinion but do so in manner that is respectful.

Carry on...
