I had the pleasure of riding shotgun on a few interesting tank mantenance trips. The tanks are impressive as are the sumps, filtration systems, lighting and all the controls for them. Quite often all that is set up on another floor, below the tank. I couldn't afford the electric bill
hah yeah, i coulld probably save up the cost for it, but the electric bill would kill me.
And its kind of stereotypicalising when some of you guys/gals say a rich person wont get their hands dirty, just because they are rich means they wont even give it any maintenence.
I think alot of that stereotyping was done in part because it was mentioned that some of these owners are absent from their (summer/winter/seasonal?) homes a lot. Plus it would be difficult for anyone to maintain a thousand gallon sw tank all by their lonesome, i think, even if they were at home often.
As far as the heat, electricity and all the other cost related STUFF.........
First, picture 4 chillers all in a row
Consider that every home with an aquarium like these also has a HUGE propane powered generator that will power the entire home for the many days we loose power down here...............Sometimes for weeks at a time like last year. Would you run a 20K aquarium, in Florida with no back up generator??? It would last about a day with no AC.
Heck, I have an 10 year old Honda generator for mine!! I'm a big spender
Lastly, with a million square feet, 8 car garage, heliport, seaplane, tennis courts, indoor/outdoor pool, the aquarium cost of 20K+ isn't even an issue
