swiss tropicals "block" filter vs. ATI pro series sponge filter

^^ LOL...who knew? ;)

And on a similar vein: http://kathrynvercillo.hubpages.com/hub/What-People-Think-When-You-Type-in-All-Caps

And here is the conclusion to that piece:

There may be any number of reasons that you would choose to write in ALL CAPS including simply that you find it more aesthetically pleasing. However, it is a fact that many people will make these negative assumptions about you if you do write emails and articles without using proper lower case and capitalization in your writing. As a result, it is probably best to drop the ALL CAPS writing and write in the traditional form in order to generate more positive online relationships with others. Plus this allows you to really make your point come through when you have something truly urgent to say and you want to say it with an ALL CAPS message.

I had a problem with plecos getting into the lift tube on Hydro sponges.
I solved that by putting on lift tube elbows from undergravel filters. They have a screen in them.

It shouldn't be an issue with my new filters, as they are a smaller diameter lift tube. I have had aspidoras, bristlenose, and all sorts of different full sized cories as well as habrosus spawn in lift tubes, lol

Looks like you have hardwater or gunk buildup in your airline. Have you cleaned them out lately?? We have to do it monthly at the place I help out at.

that is actually algae on teh outside of the line :) I leave it there for all my algae eaters to graze upon, nom nom nom.

Not talking about that at all.. Around here we get buildup inside the airline that restricts the air flow. We have super hard water, but my tangs love it. Thought maybe you might have the same issue

nah, not so far anyway. That airline has been running for about two years. The ends get a little brittle and need to be trimmed from time to time, but for the most part no problems.

My plecos must be special, since I keep finding my longfin bristlenose trying to live in the **** tubes. Fins shredded and all and I've lost some fry to being stuck in the tubes, apparently.

Are there any major differences between a sponge filter like the one listed and using, say, an airstone in a large sponge, sunk with slate?
