This is the situation. I have an established 15G at the moment. Lightly planted with Java Moss and Glossos. Then my girlfriend wants to give me a bigger tank (30in x 18in x 18in - how many gallons?) I'm planning on switching all my plants, substrate, driftwood, water, etc from the 15G to this new tank. This is pretty much a no-brainer, right? Just take all the stuff from one tank and dump it in the other tank. I'm just checking with you guys first before I do anything.

Your tank is about 42 gallons. Just move everything, you should be ok. I would use all new water, since there isnt much good bacteria in the water. Just make sure that the temp is the same, and acclamate the fish like you do with new fish.

Woo hoo! I'm getting a 40 galloner! (By the way, how do you find this out?) I've finally moved up with the big boys! Okay maybe not... but you know how it is when you've got a 15 galloner! Hehe! Thanks for the input!

To find out the volume, multiply 30*18*18 and you get 9720 cubic inches. I have a calculator at my desk that can convert cubic inches to Gallons. Since one gallon is 231 cubic inches, we divide that and get 42.077.
