I just built a DIY python, and I've been planning it for a couple days so I've decided to put off my water change until then. So I was emptying the tank, and I noticed that one of my cherry barbs, A female was swollen on one side. There was a large red sore. What do you gys think it could be ? Im hoping the water change will help. I think I'll do another when I get up tomorrow. The water has a lot of particles in it after the change, which I think is due partially to a new sponge I just put in the filter. There were particles before but not as numerous.

The fish is dead now, the tank is clear again, so there aren't particles. I'll have to do aquick check of the fish before I flush it. Its too bad I don't have a camera to use or I'd take pictures

are you sure that it was not a hole in her side that looked like a red sore? Mine had the hole after a fungus was on them. Check for any fish with any type of body fungus. This may be the first sign of a fluke, or a really bad fungus. I just recently figured out how to treat it - first treatment- Maracyn, second treatment- Melafix, third- Quick Cure (formalin and malachite green).

Good Luck

I took it out of the tank and I had to run to work so I let it sit out in a cup. When I got back from work 8 hours later, the fish was starting to decay but the swelling had gone down, and it looked like the gills had been infected and it spread from there. The other fish looked fine though, I dunno why this fish got sick in the first place.
