syphoning tank in basement?

Ya I know what your saying I have a python with 75' of hose as I used to have 4 tanks at my old house all over (I have two now) I supose this weekend I might try a bucket and see how it works out. Out the window wont work because the basement is below ground (its a condo and its in a hillside and it figures my building is the only one without a walk out basement lol then I would be all set). I could always just buy a little 1/4hp inline pump im not sure how much they are though im sure home depot has some. Or maybe I could just have my wifes grandfather plumb in a drain he is a plumber but this is a rental so....dont know how much landlord would like it lol.

Maybe buy a powerhead and attach the outlet to some flexible tubing, and just put it in the tank when you need to do a waterchange.

a python WONT work for that, sorry. i would suggest a big viaaqua pump and run it that way. i don't know how far your going but that might still be a problem plus run you a few bucks buying that long of tubing, IMO. you could get one of the 1HP mothers hehehe.

Your basement doesn't have any drains in it at all? No drains in the floor? Where does your kitchen/bathroom sinks drain to?

You have to have plumbing in your basement. If this was my problem and I was going to put such a large tank in the basement, I would just install a laundry sink. If you're not very handy, call a plumber. It will only require running a few feet of copper tubing and installing a drain that ties into your existing sink drain. If you DIY, it will cost around $200 for the sink and all the plumbing (guess). Laundry slop sinks are cheap. You would probably have to pay a plumber for about 2-3 hours of labor to install it for you.

Ive thought of this but all of the plumbing in the house is up on the underside of the first floor so im not sure how I could even put a drain in as it would act as an outlet for all the waste water. Maybe I can pick up a plumbing book and see if they give any solutions for that type of plumbing

In this situation, I would buy a submersible sump pump from a hardware store. They have standard fittings for a garden hose.

I'd place in inside a 5 gallon bucket or rubbermaid bin and siphon my water into that bin and let the pump send the water through a garden hose up to the first floor.

Here is a cheap one that would work great for $20:

I agree with carpediem that it's very surprising that the plumbing doesn't come down to the basement at any point, but only you can see what's happening.

In any event, a friend of mine was faced with a similar problem and she got a water pump from the hardware store that uses a hand held drill to power it. Works like a charm, she says. Ask your landlord about pumping the water out the window, make sure to mention just how good old aquarium water is at fertillizing plants and the lawn.

It comes down into the basement but only along the ceiling in the basement then goes out about 2 ft down from the ceiling. The ceiling is 12' so I would have pump water up about 6 ' from sink to the exit point for the pipes. They go in a tunnel over to the next building from here as this is a condo im not sure I think I would just go with a mechanical pump of some sort.

NEVER ask your landlord about wanting to do anything different or unusual. The response is rarely positive. Just do it and let him/her bother you about it later.
