Has anyone heard of these?? I found them on petsolutions.com. They are a t-06 lamp that will fit into a regular output t-12/t-10 fluorescent canopy. The watt ratings are similar to t-5's. I was wondering if these will have anywhere near the output of a same-length t-5 lamp?? I know about lighting and how you can't really compare watts to watts because of different types of bulbs and so-forth, so I do not need a lecture/lesson on the different types of lighting, I am just curious if anyone has any experience/heard anything specifically about these t-6 bulbs. The brand name is "Lightning Rod". They are pretty reasonably priced, come in several varieties/colors/temperatures, and are said to be good for 2 years (skeptical). If this is a viable option for corals, even if just for softies, then this could significantly reduce lighting costs because as far as I can tell, they are made to run off of a normal output ballast. Any info appreciated. I haven't checked if lightning rod has a website yet, I will do that and get back to you.

no, the t6 is jsut the size of the bulb. And they are jsut about the same number of watts as regular NO florecent. They are just skinnier. And they are not suitible for corals.

I understand that the t-6 designation is in reference to the size of the bulb, but t-5 bulbs obviously have more output than a NO t-12 of the same size. I was curious if this t-6 was similar in ouput to the t-5, or is the higher output of the t-5 dependent solely upon a higher output ballast??

The advertisment for these bulbs claim (underline CLAIM) that these bulbs have 30-70% more output than a same size NO bulb.

They are cheap enough that I might give a couple a try over a frag tank and see what happens.

no, they wont do a thing, even witha higher ballest it is jsut wasteing electricity. and t5 bulbs are not more powerful, it is the t5 HO bulbs and systems that are great.
and even if they claim to have more output, that is probably compared to a realy bad one.
