T-5 light output

I'm confused about the listing on drfosterandsmith.com. The fist bullet says "affordable T-5 fixture for fish only aquariums" but if you click on more information it says it has a "pink" plant bulb and a 10,000K full spectrum bulb.

Thoughts? Does this still sound like a decent plant bulb?

As a newbie here, thanks for your thoughts and information.

One other thing I like looking at drfosterandsmith - you can rerturn anything for any reason even if it's been opened. Most sites say returns are only in "original packaging". Hard to tell if somthing is going to work for you until you get it out of the box, eh?

Yep, and drsfosterandsmith doesn't charge outrageous shipping like most other places I've found. I had 100lbs (5 bags eco complete) in addition to my aquaclear parts and the shipping was only 16.89. Every other place wanted 60-80 dollars just to ship the 5 bags of eco complete.

Well, if you are going to go T5, then make sure you get T5 High Output (HO) lights. The Coralife fixture is using normal output (NO).

T5 HO (with good reflectors) put out about twice the lumens of PC watt-per-watt. They will even rival the light output and water penetration of metal halide lights. However, you don't get the full effect without a good reflector on the T5 bulbs.

I would personally use a Nova Extreme Freshwater setup 2x54W T5 over a 2x55W PC. Even though the Nova doesn't have individual bulb reflectors, you'll still beat the light output of the PC (and it falls in your price range at ~$92+shipping).

Thanks - that's exactly what I did. I have the Nova T5 HO Freshwater coming tomorrow. The Coralife just didn't have the juice - only 58 watts.

I'm excited - it's good to finally have the right equipment coming. Not a moment too soon for the plants I might add!!

Got the new light - HOLY COW. I can't believe how crisp all of the colors are. Hopefully the plants like it as much as I do.

Thanks for all of the advice. The Nova Extreme light is awesome.
