T5 Naysay'ers read THIS

Rajay, Slow down there little doggy. :)

OK, here are some figures for you to ponder on:
We will use a 4100k rating for this purpose,
The Good ol VHO 110w lamps Produce aprox. 6000 lumens.
The T-5 HO which is 54 watts produces around 5000 lumens.
Just for fun, the t-8's which are not HO/VHO at 48" and 32watts produce about 2900 lumens.

Now, these figures are for non reflected(internal) bulbs running at the same color rendering of 82. This of course will be a bit different from different manufacturers.

The T-5's in general are not quite as bright as the VHO's but they are far more efficiant in watts per lumens. Watts=heat. Yes I have run them all before for compairson and I still like the MH over VHO and t-5 but watt for watt, you cant beat the t-5's. Now add parabolic reflectors into the equasions and you will have some nice lighting no matter which way you go. BTW, I no longer have the data sheets that were produced from these tests so dont ask :) I tested the t-5 about 9 years ago and I know they have improved since then. If you really want to have some fun, try using t-2's and t-3's. To bad they are not manufacturing the right colors yet for the public.

I still have both setups with VHO and T-5 and to be honest, if I were to choose one over the other, it would be the t-5 hooked up to an Icecap ballast.

Thanks for your reply.
T8's are not under consideration from my point of view.
It would be either T5 HO, T6 HO, or T12 VHO, and whichever one I decide to go with with have a proper reflector over it and be driven with an IceCap 660.
T6 HO is not popular, so availability is limited, (have to import to Canada as we have no supplier of the HO here) however I like the fact I can buy a 48" one with standard NO bi pin configuration, that peaks with lumen output of 5,000 at 25C.
With T5 lamps, the HO lumen output of 5000 is at an ambient temperature of 35C, and at 25C which is closer to what my hood temperature will be, the lumen output is reduced to around 4100.
I don't think I'll even look at info on T2 and T3 as I can be confused enough looking at just the 3 I've been checking on.
