Tahitian Moon Sand`
Has anyone ever used this and is it ok for sting ray. Is so fine and light that it will all end up in my canister will it effect my ph or any thing else.
Is it a very dirty sand like flourite?????????

I'm using it in my 10 gallon. I can't speak for sting ray use but it doesn't stay in the water column very long so I don't think it will get sucked up into your intake. It's fairly expensive ($20 for 15lbs) so it would be very pricey to fill a large sting ray tank with TMS.

Don't make the same mistake I did and forget to wash the sand. It is pretty dirty straight out of the bag.

Here's a quick vid of my tank. It's only been stocked for about two weeks.

If you look at CaribSea's site, they indicate that TMS isn't "soft belly safe"...

...I'm not sure if that's applicable to big 'ol rays though. Personally I've been using it in one tank for about a month now without any issue -- and actually, it looks pretty dynamite!

So I went ahead and bought some for my new tank and now I have a new question???? This sand that I bought came packed in water and is live ( seems like a cheap way to get the bag to 20 pounds!!!!!) Does this still need to be washed??

i hope not; i'm getting ready to dump 100# of it into the 92 corner tank i'm setting up. i wasn't going to wash it or anything, just run a magnum on it prior to stocking.

I would suggest tanking aquarium water, If you have it, like if you already have a tank setup. Take the water from the tank drain it but try to get it kinda clean meaning don't gravel vac just take top to middle aquarium water. This will ensure that there are no chlorines or anything that can hurt the bacteria. Take the bag poor it in a collander/strainer and dunk it in the bucket a few times. That way your aren't rinsing it in fresh water and hurting the bacteria. That should be safe on the bacteria while getting rid of any dust/dirt in the bag.
