I bought a Bala shark when i first began my 20 gal. tank (2 yrs). It's about 4" now. I'm planning on bringing it back to the fish store, so they can find him a better home. I want to know if i should wait til he gets bigger (he's very happy where he is now) or bring him now. Also what is the best way to do this without stressing him out too much? I'm going to miss him :sad but I have a 3" RTS. The tanks not big enough for the both of them.

hmm... i think you should give it up now. But, try to find someone who has a large tank with balas sharks in them already.
If you take it back to the LFS, theres no guarantee it'll go to a good home, actually, with balas its most likely going to an unsuitable tank (i say that because i've heard too many people say"aww thats cute, lets buy it" and they end up having a 10g).

I suggest taking a clear bag (like the ones the LFS has) and slowly manuevre it into the bag.

You RTBS will need a tank upgrade as well.

Yeah now would be good 4" in two years, he was defenatley stunted mine grew 4" in 4 months

Same here, ours went from being a small baby to 7 inches or so in a few months.

Yeah, rookie move, bala's are really cool, so it's easy to be tempted. I don't know anyone with a truly big enough tank, so back to the LFS I guess. I do know a store with a sizeable bala tank. I'm sure growth has been stunted even though he started out fairly small. In the next year or so I plan on getting another, bigger tank to accomdate my RTBS or RTS or whatever! Thanks all,
