Taking rock from the wild

I never had any rocks bleached I use to just wash them luke warm water and a tooth brush but that was in my unknowing pre internet for me days. Only rocks I use are the ones from before. A tooth brush would come in handy to get into those crevices if there muddied up or gunked up. After a good cleaning then the bleach n hot water like stated above.

Before I knew better, I boiled all the rocks I found outside. But I boiled them in a huge soup pot, that I got from a yardsale for $2, but that was so that I wouldnt destroy my mom's pots or **** her off, lol. I guess, I got lucky, nothing ever exploded, but the pot was 20" tall and really thick, so it could have contained a blast, hehe.

Hi all I would like to know if I can take rock from the river and use it in my tank. What should i do for preparation before i put it in my tank ? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

honestly before i was really into fish,
i set up a 45 piranha tank and took a few from a
local creek by my house. that tank is still set up to
this day with six piranha and about 40lbs. of
rock out of that creek. s'all good. i did absolutely
nothing to prepare the rock. even got some free plants.
haha.

:omg:I Would advice against PoorChipotle's route as this can introduce bacteria or parasites to your aquarium. Even though Chipotle has done it with no ill affect does not mean you wouldnt. In a way more dramamtic scenerio just cause one man was caught on tape jump off an overpass onto the lower freeway with no ill effect what so ever doesnt mean you would fare out as being so lucky. It is always better to be safe then sorry.

100% agree. i was just stating how
if the proper precautions are taken, no harm
should be done. i wouldnt go my way again knowing
what i know now. i was like...12.
