Tanganyika eels?

This one I saw was very interactive. I have always loved eels but I didn't have a tank big enough and it seemed like most were very shy and hid all the time. Now I'm learning there are smaller eels available and ones that would like my hard water.

I had a plagiostoma in a 29 for months, no worries. Then one day I was cleaning the tank, and found a freshly deposited clutch of eggs. After a couple months of searching I found a male, and they both lived in the 29 for a couple years. Unfortunately, the male would eat the eggs as soon as they finished spawning. I lost them both last year when the power went out. The pleco's survived, but the eels didn't have enough O2 w/out the pumps circulating the water.

some walmarts carried battery opperated pumps in the fishing area for keeping fish alive in buckets. to prevent any future disasters like this you should consider buying a few, they are cheap i saw them for like $7

Ya, I have a battery powered pump. Unfortunately, it happened sometime during the night while I was asleep. They were already dead when I found them that morning.

how disapointing. thats a strange death, how was there not enough 0xygen? was the tank really stocked?

Oh I would really love to have one of these guys. At the next fish club meeting I will track down the guy who owned the one I saw and asked a bunch of questions.
I've never owned an eel before so now I'm considering getting a small, cheaper, beginner eel. Petsmart had some peacock eels for sale.

From what I've heard they aren't too hard to take care of. Aquabid has so for sale but they are a bit pricy. As for other eels I'd stay away from peacocks, the one I had and most I've read about just hide in the sand all day....kinda disappointing. I currently have a zigzag eel and its out all the time and I've trained it to feed from my hand :)

ive seen "giraffe" mastacemblus at daves for like $18, they are pretty cool, idk if they are any good or not though.
