Tank at slight Angle

Hi All,

For the past few weeks I've been noticing that the water line in my 120gal have not been completely "flat", but I thought it's was just my paranoia at work so I never paid much attention to it.

Until last weekend after a waterchange I noticed the angle again and it was getting to me so I got out a ruler and measured the gap between the top of the tank to the waterline and notice there's a 20mm - 40mm difference from one end to another :( It was a bit difficult to get an exact measurement due to the moving water line from the filter and difficulty in keeping the ruler straight.

Is this something that I should be concerned with? I've had this tank for years now probably 3 years or so in the same spot, and I didn't think there's an angle until recently.

I did have a few filter leaks in the past year or so and it did wet the stand and carpet and the "soaked" wooden stand might have caused the stand to sink?

Should actions be taken now or should I monitor the waterline and if it gets worse, replace the stand?

It is something to be concerned with. It depends on where the off-level is coming from. If the tank is not sitting on the stand level, the weight of the water can put non-uniform strain on the glass, even cause a twisting of the glass. Glass breaks very easily when twisted. If this is the case, you can correct it by putting a foam sheet between the stand and tank.

If it's flat on the stand(i.e. level with the stand) it's not as much of an issue, but can be corrected with some wood shims.
 
My water level looks exactly like that, and always has. My tank is slightly tilted at an angle on the stand, that is why. I'm not sure what jm means by "tank sitting on the stand level" - for example, mine is 100% level (I have actually checked w/ a level LOL), just not 100% straight. For example, the front of the tank is like 5 cm from the edge of the stand on one side and like 3cm from the edge of the stand on the other side (not the actual measurements, just trying to explain what I mean). It has been that way for well over a year and I've had no problems.
 
Something like this happened to me recently also. I used a level and I found out that the stand was level, but my top frame wasn't. I figured out that my top frame popped out a little bit, so with a tap from my hand, the frame got back to its level position. It might be your frame.
 
Thanks everyone for the quick response. There's a base foam between the tank and the stand so at least we've got that covered! :) I might borrow a level from someone and check if the actual stand is level.

Didn't think the wood shim would be too easy to insert under the stand to bring it back to level with the tank and all the gear above probably won't even budge!

Will double check the frame too.
 
The only way to correctly check is with a level. You should check the floor, the stand, and the tank. Know what level is before putting any water in the tank. After water has been in the tank a while, recheck as the floor may have settled some with the added weight.
 
Thanks everyone for the input. I've finally managed to borrow a level from a manager here at work. And everything looks good. Stand is level and top of tank is level. Tho I swear I still see more water on one end then the other, I guess next I need to get my eyes checked :)

You might wanna get your floors checked for level! If there's a distinct difference in water level, front to back or side/side, then you can be pretty certain there's something up....particularly if the spirit level indicates everything is OK with your tank...
