I was fixing some stuff in my 15g when i bumbed the side and the whole thing split down the side. Shouldn't be much of a surprise as the tanks 15 years old. Used to be my moms, I haven't been keeping fish that long.

Went ahead and went to Wal-Mart and bought a 10g and moved everything but the fish into it already. Any tips on how I should proceed? And since the gravel, filter, plants, decor and some water came from the old tank, I shouldn't have much of a cycle problem should I?

Just acclimate them as you would any new addition to the tank and you should be fine. Probably will be ok on the cycle also-would not hurt to confirm with some testing to make sure. Hopefully, you will not have to go through this again-good luck.

What a bummer! I agree that they should be just fine, since you're basically transferring the entire tank contents into a new tank, it should be just fine. Good luck.

2 weekends ago I had a 60 gallon tank break on me, got kicked out from the apartment type thingy I was in. oh well, I was moving out june 1 anyways. **** that was alot of water and fish all over

tanks can do that if they are old you never know most of the problems with tanks popping the seams is extreme temp changes while they are empty ie stored in basement, outdoors, garage, etc. My uncle his 30 gallon tank was shattered by my little cousin who hit it killed 10 angle fish and other critters.

IMO it has a lot to do with the proper support for the tank on its stand. Yes temp change can weaken the glass but if the glass is in a bind because the stand is twisted it’s a matter of time before it will blow.

When the tank is set up you need to make sure that the stand is level on the floor and that the floor will not sag over time. You need to check your tank from time to time with a level on the plastic rim on the top. If it’s of the tank is in a bind some how and if it gets to bad it can weaken the joints and when they start to give the glass shatters and the wave forms.

With the smaller tanks it’s not as stressful on the glass because there is not a lot of presser on the glass.

I have found on the larger tank they will be off a god bit after a year because of the floor.

What exactly are you supposed to do if you have a large tank that is fine, then after a year it is leaning one way or the other, short of moving the whole thing? My 55 gallon is leaning slightly, the rear front is like 1/8 inch lower than the rear.
