Tank Cleaning

I have just been give a rather nice Juwel 125 Rio, unfortunately this has been used for marine fish, but I want to use it for freshwater tropical.

I know I have to thouroughly clean the tank and filter box......

Has anybody any suggestions or advice for the best way, and any chemicals needed to ensure complete removal of the salts etc.

Water and a sponge will clean it up good, there is nothing in a used saltwater tank that will kill freshwater fish. Baking soda will take the place of soap if it's needed (soap isn't safe for fish).

No this is a second tank to replace an older hexaganal tank that has seen better days!!!

I was just worried in case any residue from previous occupants of use may give me problems?

My suggestion would be to only use a sponge, water, and siphon. I have never used baking soda so I can't say what it does (it may work great!). But I've always tried to use as little chemicals as possible whenever cleaning, maintaining, etc... Chances are that there isn't enough salt left in the tank to cause injury to your freshwater. However, it wouldn't hurt to fill the tank a few times, create water movement to help absorb any salt, and then siphon it out through a window or whatever.
