Tank input

My tank is a 55g with african cichlids in it. I just added the rocks today to give them more places to hide. I plan on also adding more taller plants to the back of the aquarium soon.

Let me know thoughts and/or suggestions.

Lots more rocks. LOTS more rocks. I'd lose the plastic plants and castle personally.

Don't really want to pull out all of the substrate though. Can I put smaller rocks etc over the current ones? Or will that cause to much drama?

Yeah, make as big a pile as you can. IMO the best looking cichlid tanks look like a barren rock quarry with the fish providing all the color and action.
