Tank Log: 55g All Crypts Riparium

I got another new shot last night of the crypts tank this time with a black background.

Thanks again very much! I like this tank a lot and I hope that I can keep it set up for a while.

One disadvantage of this setup is that the above water area of glass is foggy all the time with water condensation. This problem only began as our weather cooled and the inside of the tank became warmer relative to the room temperature. I did not observe very much of this condensation during the summer months. This tank requires a tight-fitting top because the Anubias and crypts require very high humidity. All of the other display tanks that I have set up are open-topped and do not have these issues with water condensation. Anyway, I can wipe the glass dry easily enough and view for a little while and that's always a treat--the plants have grown in very nicely.

This tank has gotten to be overgrown. Here is a picture form earlier tonight:

The emersed plants look great, but they are shading the underwater area. I now wish that this were a 75 or 90, because a shape like that would have had plenty of space along the front pane of glass.

It looks pretty cool though if I crop away the underwater portion.

I think that I am going to remove most of the larger, bushy plants in order to open it up some more. I do have several smaller, unusual crypts that I can situate in here.

Awesome!! What are you planning on trying out in there? I would love to set one of these up. Inspirational as always.

Well, I have a few other smaller crypts that ought to alright. These include a couple of different C. wendtii varieties and another one that might be C. spirales. I have another neat Spahtiphyllum too with yellow leaves.

Hey I got extra plants if you might want to try any of these out.

I am going to start pulling some of the large plants out of there to make some more room. I was reminded of a picture from April and just wanted to put it up quick as a way to see how much that foliage has grown.

It is just a shame with this skinny 55-gallon shape that those nice full plants are now shading the whole underwater area. I wish that I had the space (and budget) for a 90-gallon I would just transfer the whole thing.

And here again for comparison is that picture from a couple of weeks ago.
