Tank Looking "eh"

That was a great way to do it! Wish I'd thought of the stocking with old gravel in it. I kept thinking, what's a good way to keep my old bacteria in there without mixing the old gravel with the new?

Duh, I should have vacuumed the glass bottom, too. But I had left my fish in the tank, so didn't want to stress them out anymore than I already had.

Shoot, I wish I had kept some of that old gravel. It's sitting in the bottom of my outdoor trash can now. But I keep testing my water, and no ammonia or nitrite yet! Haven't lost a single fish or shrimp, either :)

Thanks for getting back to me. Now I know, in case there's another instance when I need to change out all my gravel.

The transformation is slow, but here it is so far. I planted 3 swords, and 3 mystery bulbs (betta bulbs) that I was curious about. I left some of the fake plants in (totally obvious) just to maintain some "cover" for my tetras as they seem to enjoy it. Let me know what you think so far:

ooh, nice! that's the exact same gravel I have. it makes everything look more organic, doesn't it? i liked it so much that i replaced all of the gravel in my 4 tanks with it :)

I have that gravel as well. My mom got me a piece of drift wood and I was really looking foward to put it in but... is it supposed to float? Because it floats. I wanted to have it lying on the gravel. I'll post a picture of my tank to show you.

driftwood floats, that's why it's called "drift" wood. many folks find boiling it helps, others have wood that will float no matter what. you can either weight it down, or attach suction cups to it. your best best is to do a search on the forums or post a new thread. i think the search is the first step, because many people have asked this question before.

It looks so ugly there but w/e. The water isn't as low anymore, lol.

Thanks for the compliments :)

I love this gravel too it really turned the tank around before adding the real plants and the driftwood, much less kiddy and more natural.

I bought the driftwood at petco actually, it was near the reptile area for $8.99 tagged with the "safe for aquarium" tag. I scrubbed it and soaked it until the water ran clear - which was only overnight..no problems with floating either which was great.
