Oh, I have a Blue Goriami, I have had him for around a year and a half. I had others but my mom didn't know about the chlorine intolerance that fish have, and poured in tap water and killed all but him, he is one tough cookie though.
Would using a python to fill the tank kill any chlorine intolerant fish he has if he got new ones after the last kill off?

When adding water to an aquarium you should always use a dechlorinator if you have treated water. As far as I was aware of pretty much everything we would want in an aquarium is chlorine intolerant.

As for using a gravel vac with a single 10g aquarium you should be able to get by with a standard gravel vac and a 3-5g bucket. In this case you can use a 1g pitcher to refill the aquarium in short order. Pythons are nice, but with a single 10g aquarium it shouldn't be a necessity.

Now when you say "blue gourami" do you mean this : http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_tricho.php or this: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_powder.php

The first one is going to need a much bigger tank than a 10 gallon, but the second one is okay. I really find it hard to believe a dwarf gourami would be causing so much poop; unless, the poop was left from you never vaccuming the gravel. However, if you do have a pleco: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_pleco2.php than the source of the poop is very understandable, because these are very messy fish that grow very large.

Thanks guys( and girls) for the replies. I use a generous amount of this stuff called stress coat when I add water. And Sammie7, it is the first, but I only have two, so I figured it would be okay, but if not PLEASE let me know, I want a bigger one anyways. I am now planning on buying a gravel vac know, but I have to ask, could I get one at walmart or do I need to go to a pet store? Does anybody live in south Georgia, or know of any good pet stores?

That kind of gourami is going to get too big for a ten gallon tank. Even just one of them is too much for this size aquarium. They can easily grow to six inches each and are more aggressive as they get bigger. I would suggest trading it in for a dwarf variety.

As far as the gravel vac goes, I haven't seen them in the Walmart. They do sell them in the fish pet shops though and depending on the size will dertermine the price you have to pay for it. One for a ten gallon tank should be relatively cheap.

If your Walmart has a fish section then they probably have gravel vacs. That is where I got one of mine for around 3-4 dollars. Ditto to what Marinemom said about the Gourami. If you read the info on the page I linked you will see it is not the best candidate for a 10 gallon tank. Your tank is much too small for this type of gourami. You would be better off getting a honey or dwarf gourami. They are both very pretty fish and the picture of the honey gourami isn't the best, as they usually have very vibrant colors.

Get a small size gravel vacuum. My tank is only 15 gallons and a larger vacuum drains too fast for me to clean much gravel when only doing a 10-20% change (I actually do about 2 gallons twice a week most of the time). The smaller one gives you more time for cleaning. I think I've got the "small" version of this one. I can vacuum 1/2 the tank, well, at a time, removing 2 gallons from the 15.

My filter is a 20-40 power filter( I know it's for 20 - 40gallon tanks but wal mart didn't have ten gallon filters in stock, aggravating!)
Having a filter that turns over (gallons per hour) more water faster is not a bad thing. I think its better that you have a 20-40 gallon filter for your 10 G tank. I always run filters that can handle more water then I actually have. It just makes sense. Unless of course its so powerful its shooting water all over the place. hehe. but I'm sure yours is not. be glad you bought the better one!!!

The most important thing to your fish in the water quality. Top #1 priority. Weekly water changes using your gravel siphon (and I mean weekly or at the very least bi weekly) of about 20-45% in my opinion should serve you solid and the wasteload you see will be near nonexistant. The more fish you have in a small tank that size, the more you should stick to a strict cleaning/maintence schedule. With a 10 gallon tank this should really only take you a few minutes per week to keep your tank clean, healthy, and thriving! and remember, don't overfeed... you'll see more food decays, more poop, and worse water quality when you do that.

good luck!

Thanks guys, I am planning on getting a bigger tank this spring, 20 or bigger, because I am getting a job. Thanks so much. I got one( gravel vac and siphon) from walmart. would one Blue gourami be okay? I have one Blue Gourami, one honey gourami and three tiger barbs. Which will be put into a bigger tank as soon as I get more money. I gave one of my blues away to my neighbor with a 55 gallon tank and he is taking good care of it.
