tank mate

i personally wouldn't. i have an oscar and i know for a fact he is too boisterous to live with a giant gourami.

remember to have a separate quarantine tank for any new fish you bring home, and keep them in that tank for at least a month to observe and treat any diseases that may come up. you don't want to risk getting your gourami sick.

If by Giant Gourami the OP means Osphronemus goramy, I strongly disagree. The only issue is tank size, since the Gourami can get almost twice as large as the Oscar which can get big enough. True Giants easily hang with large Cichlids, including Flowerhorns (which are generally way more aggressive than Oscars) in suitable tanks.

Knowing the Size of tank you will have these in, will do alot for people making suggestions. ;)

I'm gonna guess there will be alot of No's if you say anything less than 300g.

the giant gouramis that i have had the pleasure to see have all been incredibly docile, whereas the oscars i have seen have been lil 'poop disturbers', lol. yes, size wise, an oscar would be a good tank mate, but i know i'd never put a giant gourami with my own oscar.

ok

You'll probably get alot more input over there?

I've been keeping fish for a while, and have gotten to the point of caring too much. ;)
I'm keeping my single catfish in a 40g L right now. He's somewhere around 9-10" not counting the thread tail. Happiest, funnest cat I've ever had. :)
He seems to think he's a dog. Being an Upside-down cat, he hangs around upside-down in his house. But when I lean down and look into it, he acts like some puppy laying on it's back, floping around to get up-righted to come running to see me.
The other day my mom was laffing at him, saying he looks like one of those dogs running through the post in competition. Because he was doing that through the plants.
We'd been wondering what was going to happen with trying to grow plants with him. I'm still new to plants, so the biggest thing I've had with them are cories.
But I'm guessing, because of his upside-down abilities. He's pretty graceful about going through and around them.
So, so far, the only problem is that I think he likes java moss.

I even feel bad about my 6 cories in a 10g.

So you can probably see my point of view when I say...
Keeping just the Gouarmi in an 8x2 is about the same as keeping a small dog in an 8x2 cage.

While I have also found Giants very peaceful, in every tank that I can remember which contained a large one it was invariably first in line for food, regardless of its tankmates.
