I have a 35 gallon hex tank that I want to add one more tank mate. Right now I have 15 neon tetras and a pair of Blue Rams. I want to start breading the rams, so I want a tank mate that will stay at the top of the tank and leave the rams alone/not eat the eggs and fry.

I am up for any suggestions. If there isn't anything I am fine with that, but I know I have room for some one more fish. Let me know Thanks

my zebra danios stay at the top of my tank almost exclusively, but they do go down to the mid bottom levels sometimes.

you have SOO many fish in your 55 gallon.

I know I have a lot in my 55. They are all 1-2" I am going to weed that bunch out after they all start showing color and I know which ones I want to keep

How about some hatchets? The marbled ones are very pretty and they stay exclusively near the surface.
BTW, I concur w/pps assessment re: your 55g. although we are not discussing that in this thread...

Okay, gotcha... fair enough.

:)

If you do hatchets, make sure that you have a very tight fitting lid. They seem to find the tiniest holes to jump through and they are known jumpers especially if they get spooked.

all the suggestions wil work
but if you really want successful spawns ..set up a breeding tank.

chances are the rams wil lose the fry to predation in a community set up. as soon as the fry get to free swimmers the rams won't be abe to protect them well unless you have a section heavily planted with lots of cover and the rams move the fry there.
