Tank mates for a Mudskipper colony

nah......most of them stay under 6". his 55g tank will be fine.

Sorry, incorrect. But then, if he is in SA, the local species he is getting are likely not the ones most often seen in the trade.

It's been a long time in the making but I finally got around to getting my hands dirty. Unfortunately I couldn't fit in a 55G but I scaled it down to fit a spare 20G I had lying around. I managed to get my hands on 2 skippers as well which is really awesome since they are only available around this time of year and are snapped up in a hurry. They're living it up in quarantine and fattening up on bloodworm and live crickets! :)

Their new home is curing and will be ready for them in around 6 to 8 weeks.

Here are some photo's...

that looks awsome! what cement mix did you use to coat the foam with?
also why does it need 6 - 8 weeks curing time if its painted?

Thanx! :)

I used "quickcrete" - 1 part cement, 1 part playpen sand. The recommended curing time for Quickcrete at that mix ratio is 7 days after which it will need to stay immersed in salt water for about a month to make sure anything that can leach out of it does. The "paint" is a powdered pigment type of stain - it colors the concrete by soaking in to it but it doesn't seal it and the concrete remains porous.

are you curing it underwater?

Day 6 of the dry curing process and tests recommended by a civil engineer friend showed that the concrete is 100% dry (place a brick on the surface and leave overnight - if the bottom of the brick is damp the next morning then concrete is still curing).

So my patience ran out and I couldn't wait another day... here are some photo's of the waterfall running! :)

So begins the 3 to 4 weeks of daily water changes and monitoring parameters...

love the waterfall, it reminds me of me of a pool in a tropical resort.
I wish we has mudskippers in NZ because I want to make a viv of my own now..
