yep i would most definitely agree with jayhawk mulitis are fo sure sweet i have 3 brevis and a loner multi, there pretty cool in all.

Are snails okay? I tend to get a lot of algae, and I'm trying to think of a fish (or aquatic organism) that will do some cleanup work, or should I just scrape every week?
Snails would be OK - my tanks always have some malaysian trumpet snails, and my brevis once pulled a large apple snail off the shell the brevis pair were sharing...it was cool to watch such a small fish do that to such a big snail (no harm to the snail BTW) - the brevis bit onto the shell edge and pulled.

Hahaha, okay awesome, things are looking good then for this. Over at Midwest Cichlids a couple people said that there were a few breeders, so I'm looking forward to getting this started.
I just looked up those trumpet snails, and wouldn't you know it, I had HUNDREDS of those in my tank when I cleaned it out this summer to store it, and I never bought a single one! Nice to know they are easy to maintain! How high off the sand should I place my filter intake? I was thinking that that might be my only problem, but it is easily solved. I was thinking around 2 inches, is that about right?
Good point about the filter intake. I'd suggest getting a pair of panty hose or hose socklets and rubber banding the end bit over the intake tube...believe me, those guys might dig a pile of sand all the way to your filter tip. I'd even suggest 3-4 inches above the sand for the intake tube...you'll have to watch them and see what they get up to!
