I bought some mystery fry from walmart having no idea what they were. Thought they were pink convicts, so i bought a striped convict once my babies were bigger. I began to notice they weren't shapped the same, and have now learned they are indeed undyed jelly beans. I have a 55 gal tank now that they have out grown a 10 gal. They only live on 1/3 of the tank and I need to get some tank mates. Any ideas?? If you are anti jelly beans please don't reply with hateful comments. I didn't know what they were and I am not going to kill them even though some have told me too. thanks :)

Nolapete, I'm glad that you asked that question. I'm clueless too <insert joke here>

jelly bean

Well, that seems to be a big debate.. I have heard that they are convict parrot cross or convict midas cross. They look like pink convicts but are more stout and blocky shaped but don't have the "parrot" beak. Most stores dye them all kinds of funky colors which I do not think is right. They are pretty aggressive and very beautiful. Someone else posted a pic of theirs on here somewhere. From what I can tell they have much the personality of convicts.

jelly beans

 oh, and also i think when you loose a tooth the easter bunny leaves you some jelly beans on thanksgiving or something???

You're better off getting some convicts instead.
To replace the jellybeans? He already owns them and he will not give them up. I used to have these fish not knowing they are hybrids as well. They look closely similar to the cons except their body shape and are very easy to breed.

Only tankmates for them? Danios. They are pretty fast and will be able to escape the jellybean parrots' aggression. These cichlids will easily stretch their territories to a whole tank during spawning season.;)

jellybean parrots are blood parrot/pink convict cross, which makes their color very pale pink or even white, suitable for dying them any bright rainbow color. when you see the dyed ones in a store they are all different colors, and they look like a school of fat swimming jellybeans.
