Tank Mates for Yellow Labs $$$

Also like Afro said with the more aggressive fishes to stay away from i will add the Zebra as well, it sounds like you don't need any more hybridization going on and really i wouldn't sell the hybrids.. But that's your call my friend.. Good job on teaching your child and staying the path.. righteous..

As for tank mates Rusty's, Acei, Saulosi, Afra's, Fuellborni and some Tropheops all stay about the same size as the Labs and shouldn't be a problem plus they breed readily.. 1M / 4F ratios..

Well Razzo, I can suggest you to have the 3 species that I have with my yellow labs in my 55gal: rusties (I. sprengerae), yellow tail Ps. acei and snow whites (albinos) Ps. socolofi. I have in this tank 5 fishes of each of these 4 species. You can see my tank in my signature thread.

I also don't suggest cross-breeding unless you know what the scientific results will be. Lack of breeding responsibility is one of the many reasons for non-indigenous fish being found in the wild and decimating the environment. People end up with too many and start dumping them. Do yourself and the hobby a favor through responsible breeding and sales. There are far too many mutts in the wild now that would not normally be found.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's a group that I inherited, they breed like rabbits and I had really thought about it much after that. I'll pull the "olives" and stick with the labs. :)

I like your tank :) Thanks for the suggestions.

I have an extra 30-gallon tank that I am giving to a friend. Their toddler daughter just loved my yellow labs, so, I am gonna give them a few for their new tank and I was wondering what else they can do - I like the species you have in your mbuna tank. I will suggest those to them.

Thanks,
Russ

You are welcome and thanks for my tank's comments. But then, are you asking for a mbuna setup to a 30gal (3' long) tank?

Actually both. My tank is a 55 and the tank I will be giving away is a 30.

Primarily, I am looking to put a couple other species in my 55 with the labs. Will all these speices breed easily too?

I'll try to post some pics of my 55.

Thanks, Russ

Cool, Russ! About the breeding issue, IME rusties and aceis are even more prolific breeders than the labs. I have been no lucky with the snow whites, yet.

What's the best way to buy these malwai fishies? Out in South Bend, Indiana (fly over country) we don't have much to choose from with our LFS. Chicagoland is a 2 HR drive, maybe I can find some Illini that can set me up???
