My WalMart has a "beginners" 55 G tank for $160. This is tank/filter/heater/ almost everything else one would need. I'm more than likely going to pick this up in the next week or so, but does anyone have any horror stories as to why it might not be? I'm not about to buy the fish WalMart has (too overcrowded and today they looked like they were covered in a white, fuzzy fungus... pretty cruel actually) but does anybody have any horror stores as to why I should buy other aquarium products there?

Probably cheaper to get the Tank w/ Light Hood from PetsMart.. because most likely, you'll get a better filter and heater than the one from Wal-Mart.. I recommend ordering the filter and heater from drsfosterandsmith.com
And PetsMart's Top Fin brand.. that's they're brand, and they provide a lifetime warranty on the tank.. so, if it ever cracks, or anything.. you can go return it for another one.
wal-mart uses all glass tanks and the filters are scaled down marine land filters. the bodies are the same but the lids are different.

you can get conversions for them and turn them into bio-wheel filters.
wal-mart doesn't manufacture their own...like most places they get a bid for something from a main line mfg and put their brand on it.

they acctually have some pretty good deals going on right now. if you know where to look, you can get even better ones.
my cousin scored 15% off, already reduced by $5, a 20 gallon high tank kit because it was the last one they had in the store and the tape on the top of the box was broken. everything was there, sealed, and it all worked great set up. he used the extra money off to get a second filter to help properly filter the tank.

Yeah, they're scaled down marineland filters, but it costs more to convert one to biowheel then to actually buy a biowheel filter.
