tank set-up

ok. I have the tetra test kit as i stated earlier,it's fairly accurate but the bottles are quite small.how often should i test in this early stage? I did a test today....so every other or every 2? I dont want to miss when my ammonia level drops and not dose when needed.

I have had success with testing every other day.

Good. Now the fish....first off bishop,My wife bought this tank from a yard sale....the owner said it was a 35 gal.The dimensions are as i said before:Length 36 in,Width 17 wide by 30 wide. I have a 5 gallon bucket i use for changes and filling,it takes about 4 and a quater to fill it.does this mean that it is for sure a 25 gal instead of a 35?

ok....it's 3ft long(36in) from top of tank to bottom is 16 1/2in,and the sides are 1ft(30in) that is what it measures.

With those dimensions, it puts it at 38 gal...but that doesn't add up to the amount of water you have measured and put in. The chart at glass cages.com lists common tanks, with the first number being the length (left to right), the second number is the depth (FRONT TO BACK), and height (top to bottom).

In a 25-30 gal tank, you can have a variety of fish that are extremely entertaining.

My bad bishop...the sides are 12in(was looking @ the bottom number!)..but i'm confused by the front to back thing......do u mean measuring from the inside of the tank? I'm not real good with measuring.

I usually measure on the outside. You will actually have a bit less than the calcs show, but nothing drastic.

what is a nice site where i can see different kinds of fish
