I had somewhat of a similar problem. It seems that the tacking strip located next to the wall would throw my stand off level and leaning slightly forward. I moved the stand about 2 inches from the wall and used a couple cardboard shims (flat not corrugated) to fine tune things. As far as spillage is concerned, I placed a small throw rug like the type you might use for an entry way in front of the stand that I picked up at a local store for about $5. That seems to work fine and looks decent enough.
