Tank Size Questions

ILOVEBETTAS

It's Cory Lover's cat!
What's the min. tank size for a severum?

and

What's the min. tank size for a blood parrot?

I'd say a 55 gallon for keeping them together, if you're lucky. I kept my severum in a 55 gallon with one of my parrots for a long time, then as soon as the severum grew to the same size as the parrot, all hell broke loose. I had to move the parrot to a different tank because it was getting picked on so much I thought it would die. I've gotten the impression that my severum is more aggressive than most, but still if I were you I wouldn't count on it working out.

Now I keep my severum in a 55 gallon with an adult size firemouth and female convict, 3 yellowtail botia, and 3 dwarf green pikes. I keep 2 blood parrots in a 45 gallon with a female convict, a rainbow shark, and 3 yo yo loaches. I would highly recommend the pikes as tankmates for either a severum or blood parrot if you can find them. They're really aggressive for their size, and very active!

Would a thirty gal. be okay if I kept 1-2 blood parrots OR (I say or, not and) or 1-2 severums in a thirty gallon, if I did A LOT of water changes? I'm not going to put them in my thirty gallon now, which is now a community tank, but in a few years I want a cichlid and i don't have much money. Would 1-2 of either species work well in a thirty gallon? I like planning ahead of time... :D

Like was previously stated, 55g minimum. You can't treat these like you treat your bettas *ahem*

severums are a 8-10 inch fish, BP's are a 6-7 inch fish, neither will work in a 30

55 MINIMUM

At the risk of starting a war I'm going to tell you that you'll be fine with one BP in a 29 gallon. In fact- I have one BP and one angel peacefully coexisting in my 29 right now. They won't "outgrow" the tankk to the point where they can't move, they'll "outgrow" the tank to the point where the filter won't be able to handle the fish's bio-load. I tihnk that's why so many people in this thread are crying that you need a "55 MINIMUM." If I had room and money for a 55, then I'd be able to do more but since I don't I work with what I do have. If you are steady with your weekly wc's and watch your water parameters you'll be fine. Just one BP.

And what do you do to your bettas that is so horrible by chance?
