Tank Stand - water damage...

My tank stand is made from veneered particle board (I know). On one side of the stand, the veneer appears to be bulging slightly. There appears to be a water mark about 6 inches up from the stand base. It has been like this for a few months but I'm starting to worry as I ran my hand on it today whilst putting something in the cabinet and it does feel lumpy. I believe this was caused by a dripping filter.

Is this gonna break? Stand (all made of veneered particle board) has 2 sides either end, a full wooden backing going the complete length of the tank, a centre peice of wood (from back to front) in the middle and a front 2ft peice that seperates the two cupboards.

I was thinking of getting another peice of wood and putting it right next to the damaged peice or maybe 2 or 3 2x4s? Don't know.

Whatever advice appreciated. The wood doesn't feel wet or anything but obviousy something has happened there so I'm worried.

the partical board will eventually crumble since it has been wet at one time. it's really not worth the trouble. i'd replace it and save disaster down the road

Reinforcing it with some 2x4's for the very short term but will be replacing as soon as possible.

On your next water change after removing the amount of water you normally do, 50% in this case might be good, drain the rest of the tank into "ROUND" trash can with a new bag liner. remove fish , ornaments and drain to the bottom. Then remove and replace the stand.

particle board that is dry and needs extra support is one thing, but water damaged and most likely continued damage to what amounts to sawdust & paste is quite a different issue. As the saying goes "move it or lose it".:cry:

Incidentally my 60 tank is sitting on one,and I cant wait to replace it and its not damaged but slowly warping over time, a real waste of money IMHO for wet fish tank.
