I've read several places that Gouramis like a tank temperature of 76-78 degrees. My tank has been getting into the 80's. So after much consideration, my husband and I decided to move the tank. We moved it to another area in the room. We have base board heaters and moved it to a wall without a heater. My tank's temperature is currently at 82 degrees. I don't (obviously) have a heater in the tank. And my house temperature is only at 65 degrees. I can not think of any reason why the tank temp is so warm. But back to the question...will this temp hurt my fish at all? They all seem to be doing fine with no changes in activity.

No I don't think the high temperature will hurt them, but they may be quite uncomfortable. How large is the tank? (easy to move)? If possible I would try moving it and see how the new location works out.

I don't know why the temp is that high but 2 things:

lights will add some heat, maybe a couple of degrees

water will hold temperature for a lot longer than air, so if it was just moved it will stay warm for awhile.

In response to moving the tank. I just moved it yesterday and I really don't want to move it again so soon to prevent upsetting the fish.

I checked the water temperature just now and its at 80 degrees. I'll let you all know if it drops or goes up.

That seems like a very high differential between your ambient temp and the water temp...

My first guess is that one of your thermometers might not be working. You might get a second set. Also, if your tank was getting hot right next to the baseboard heater, you could set a fan next to it to see if you get less concentrated heat right next to your tank.

When I first starting reading high temps I immediately went out and bought another thermometer. It correlated with the first. The water is also warm to touch. The temperature is currently at 82 Degrees. My next move for the tank will be the bedroom if I can not control the temp in this room.
