Ok, I realize this isn't a physical piece of equipment that I'm building but this is my style of DIY project (I have too many burns, scars, and stitches from DIY projects)
I want to build a web app that lets you record readings from your tank (like ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, temp. etc...) as well as notes. The first version will be just this, but then I want to upgrade it to allow you to have multiple tanks, and to configure your tank so you can list the inhabitants, plants, equipment etc too, as well as pictures and videos.
I'd like to also make it so that each user has an RSS feed so they can put their tank stats on their web site, add some social networking features so that you can follow and see what is happening with other people's tanks. It would also have a function to copy vital stats (like ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph) to your clipboard to make it easy to post the info into discussion forums like this one, when you are asking for help.
It would also be as easy to access on a computer as on an iPhone or Android, so it will be easy to update and view from anywhere.
The status of this project right now: In the middle of a self-taught crash course ruby on rails training binge. I should have something to show in a couple of weeks. It will start out free. I'd like to keep it mainly free, but might offer paid upgrades to get more storage space or things like that.
Your thoughts? Would you use such a thing, what features would you like it to have? Is there anything like this out there already?
