Tanked Returns

I just watched the mob tank and they had a close up of one of the tangs and the thing was COVERED in ich.

They fly out to that place that supplied their fish (until this most recent episode when they opened up their own area like that) and tell them the type of fish they want. Then the supplier sends them to where the tank is being set up. Not much they can do about it other than go back and treat it after they show off the tank. They probably didnt plan on it having ich from their supplier (that is supposed to be so great) and didnt bring stuff to treat it, or anything to bring it back to their shop in other than a 55g garbage can.

from my limited reading on tangs, they are notorious for bringing ich into a tank anyway. that being said, ich does happen, and if you treat it properly, is not that big an issue.

as for the show Tanked, i'm on the fence. seeing the huge builds they do is really neat. the totally fake coral inserts in freshwater tanks....... not so much. lol. their annoying banter is, well, annoying. hahaha.

i would love to see them make more tanks like the beer keg one. not saying vertical tanks that make no sense for the fish housed inside, but tanks on a budget a little closer to your average fishkeeper. those ginormous casino tanks, etc are great to look at, but in my mind, it would be great to see mostly 'outside the box' tanks that would work in a home application.

ps - the roulette wheel in the casino tank has got to be the tackiest thing ever! and it barely even spun, before it fell right off and after they put it back on.

I agree 100%. Has anyone else noticed those tanks lining their hallways in the tv show? I think they might be mini versions of some of the more standard tanks they offer, but it would be really cool if they did an episode about setting up a tank, including the cycling process, water changes, and all of that good stuff that places like petco never mention unless you ask. Maybe a nice 10g, on a budget of course.

They always say how heavy the tanks are, how long it took to make (in man hours), and how many gallons they hold, they should mention approx. cost as well. It would be interesting to see how much some of them cost.

I do know that they said the cost in their top hardest tanks episode when they were doing the quarantine tanks and the customer didnt want the sides to be black, which ended up costing them thousands in materials. After the customers left they took the tank and smashed them. I thought that it was pretty stupid because the walls behind the tanks were black, so it made no difference at all.

Did anyone else notice...

In the episode with the bus, they mention adding nitrifying bacteria to instantly make the tank safe, and show them pouring it into the tank. The name on the bottle of nitrifying bacteria was "Colony". Having never heard of it, I thought I'd look into it online, to learn more about it.

What I found, is that ATM (the company from the show) is the company that makes "Colony" (or it's at least branded that way). Now it's in their best interest to explain the need for cycling tanks better on the show, if for no other reason than to promote their bacteria in a bottle.

I'd prefer anything to take up the time they spend doing those horribly staged pranks, lol

With a tank with no inverts or coral you're right, it's not a massive issue as you can dose it with anything you really want. However, the fish should still be properly quarantined, that way it wouldn't have to be an issue at all. They mention QT sometimes but they did show these specific fish being dumped right in.

Nerdy, I'm sure where they order their fish are no different where many LFS order their fish, so that statement is irrelevant.
