Tankmate lists

The betta imbellis is a separate fish from the splendens, period. I'd never heard of keeping a larger group of dwarf males together, but have heard of people doing it with certain aggressive fish like rainbow shark. No idea if it really works as I am too much into peaceful fish to let a group of six fish and their pecking orders ruin my tranquility! Oh, and ladies, I live in Texas, wear Wranglers and Justin boots and I can tell you, cowboy butts are overrated. ;)
 
Sometimes male gouramis can get along okay. When alone they are great. But I've had two instances where they haven't, and they work out fine. I had a male dwarf true color with two females. One female died from internal parisites (quite suddenly), and I could never find a replacement for her. But that was OK, because my male doesnt' care enough to tormet the other girl. He only blew one bubble nest, and that was when there were both girls, and didn't persue any of them. I don't know what his problem is. I'm removing the girl soon anyways, but they've gotten along like this for months.

Then, with pearl gouramis it is possible to have a pair of males. they can be pretty peaceful. Make sure they have room, though, just to be on the safe side. My pair is best buds with the angel, go figure. I was so worried that they would fight to the death.
 
On the species profile and on Liveaquaria they recommend that the dwarf Neon Blue Gouramis be kept in pairs and says that they are very shy and peaceful. If this is true I would like to give it a try. Would the sparkling Gouramis give the Dwarf Neon Blues trouble? The Sparkling Gouramis are smaller than the Dwarfs, right? If the Sparkling Gouramis won't work out, so be it. Would the rest of the list work?
Also, I don't know about anybody else, but my Sparkling Gouramis look nothing like the picture on Liveaquaria. I hope they sent me the right fish. Mine are the shape and fin layout of a regular Gourami but, of course, they are smaller. The picture shows a longer bodied fish with a small dorsal fin and long front fins. Am I just too picky? Do I have the right fish?
 
Both graphs are pretty bad in their own ways. For example, liveaquaria shows plecs and other STRICTLY freshwater fish are compatible with brackish water fish, somehow... And ****************, sometimes i just dont know when to trust them.

dwarf Neon blue gouramis should be kept in pairs is what it says. Now, do they define pair as male and female, or a couple of males? In my research I am finding more and more that two males simply row with one another. If you could get a picture of your fish, maybe we could see if they sent the right thing.
 
Anabantids. I think in 75g you could keep two different kinds. I would see that as a bubblenest in both the back corners. These guys can be fiesty, especially when they start trying to mate. But still that is a lot of territory. I always like to think in terms of Geography when I plan a tank. So I love the idea of adding rasboras in with them. In a 75 you could add some loaches. That would give you all three levels . You could put some glass cat fish in there and then start on Java fern and Java moss. If I remember correctly hydrophilla would fit in there. Off the top of my head I can't think what else. Oh crypts, aponogeton.

Benthic and demersal are two words I learned recently, I love words.

Sounds good, thank you. I can't do the loaches though. I plan on having pet snails that I don't want eaten. I did think of it until I read about them eating snails. Thank you for your input though. I appreciate your vote of confidence. :)
 
I can understand that. I once had a flying fox I liked a lot. SAE would work and what every you do avoid Chinese Algae eaters. I had two of those fish for a very long time because they came with a 50g tank a friend of mine didn't want anymore. After a while I began to understand why.

I always found South East Asia to be a bit of a demersal quandry. (one more time and I will actually know how to spell that word.)

Oh and see if you can find the loach FOOF just got. That is one nice fish.
 
But, does my list sound good? And, if I add a few snails, I'm planning on the Japanese Trapdoor snails, will the WHOLE list work in a 75 gallon planted tank?
 
Your list is compatible, but I'd limit my gourami choice to one type of gourami, only, and have more of the same. Ex: 1 sparkling male, 5 sparkling female,

He will be a happy man.


oops, make it 6 female and forget betta imbellis and the dwarve gourami

add sae's and ottos perhaps
