Tankmate lists

How do you get the female gouramis? I ordered 3 Sparkling Gouramis for my 10 gal. tank from Liveaquaria and I am pretty sure that they are all males. How do I tell for sure and how do I specify what I want?
If I go with the Dwarf Neon Blue Gouramis instead of the Sparkling Gouramis, the "pair" should be a male and a female, right? What about for the German Ram Blue Cichlids, which are also supposed to be kept in pairs?

I am also considering changing something out for an ADF. Any thoughts?

It helps to work on a relationship with a local fish store if you have one. For all the bad mouth I hear around here, these people can help you find what you want. They are very likely to know where you can get what you want.

Unfortunately, I just have chain stores that don't order for customers. I have to do my shopping online.

Then you will just have to call some of the online places and ask them if they can provide you with what you want. Too many people go to Petsmart and buy on impulse. Better to plan it all out.

Thanks. :)

Also, I know that the Sparkling Gouramis are a little rough, but I just want to clarify, if I go with the Dwarf Neon Blue Gouramis which are listed as peaceful, timid, and shy, instead of the Sparkling Gouramis, which were also listed as peaceful but not shy and timid, the "pair" should be a male and a female, right? What about for the German Ram Blue Cichlids, which are also supposed to be kept in pairs?

Your list is compatible, but I'd limit my gourami choice to one type of gourami, only, and have more of the same. Ex: 1 sparkling male, 5 sparkling female,

He will be a happy man.

oops, make it 6 female and forget betta imbellis and the dwarve gourami

add sae's and ottos perhaps

Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?

Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious...service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.

Russian Ambassador: I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor.

Lauren,

That was a sick movie. Entertaining, but sick. :OT: Although, I really like George C. Scott. He is so funny. I loved him in "Patton." :OT: (But hey, this is my thread, I can be off topic if I want to. :D)

I agree, but I do love Dr. Strangelove, its a great movie.

Yes, it was. :D

Okay, back to the anabantids. The fish on my list that are supposed to be in pairs; the pairs should be a male and a female, right? If the store goofs and gives me 2 males will it be a problem? The species profile says that the Neon Blue Dwarf Gouramis are very shy and timid. Any thoughts? And the German Ram Blue Cichlids?

I was also considering changing something out for a ADF. Any thoughts?
