I wouldn't recommend putting more then one female gourami in a tank together unless it is a fairly large tank. I have found that the females can be just as nasty as the males. I had a male and female pair and the male was a pretty aggressive guy so I bought another female to help spread out the aggression. That didn't help, the pair ganged up on the new comer and I had to remove her before they killed her. I would say that the more aggressive of the two was the female.
However, one female would be fine. They are notoriously harder to find as most people think they are not as pretty at the males. I had been waiting and looking for months and my LFS just got a batch in about a week ago. I saw them and snatched one up immediately. They guy helping me said he was grabbing a couple for himself because he hadn't seem them in months. If you are patient you will eventually find them though.
I kept cories, black phantom tetras, and neon tetras with my gouramis successfully and I would recommend them as well.
