I was just wondering what a good tankmate would be for a betta fish.
I don't know if I'm going to get a tankmate for my betta yet but I was just curious. My betta is in a 10 gallon tank with a ramshorn snail right now.
I was looking at the Khuli loach. We have some at work and I think their cute. I'm also thinking of setting up another 10 gallon tank sometime in the future.

Well, if you grow those plants we were talking about in a different thread, you could deffinitely get a small group of kuhli's (I'd recommend about 5 or 6), as well as a nice piece of driftwood they could inhabit.

As far as other fish that would occupy the water column, I would advise staying away from anything that swims too fast (i.e. zebra/leopard/longfin danios).

Maybe some white cloud minnows? Platies are nice for small tanks, but could distract too much from the betta kinda ruining the zen aspect of your aquarium.

I've got a few feeder guppies that I decided not to feed, with my betta. They don't have much color and are much smaller than the betta so the tank feels balanced to me.

I got rid of the ram horn snail and I now have 5 ghost shrimps in there with him. I had put some plant bulbs in the tank after they started to sprout.
The snail ate all the leafs off the bulbs (which wasn't much). So I decided to get rid of the snail and went with ghost shrimp. There isn't a chance that my betta will eat the ghost shrimp is there? So far my betta hasn't done anything to them.

eesh thats not good guppys long find will make the betta think that there are other males in the tank and will attack them especially if there males.

My female betta killed a few of my ghost shrimp. Ate some pieces too before I got them out. I also believe she killed one of my young mollies. I just put a cory in with her yesterday though (not sure what type, think it started with a J) and so far she is doing well with it. They are in a planted 5 gallon.
